RYDER CUP
TEAM EUROPE
The Ryder Cup is a unique sporting context. Every two years, twelve of Europe’s finest golfers unit as a team to take on the USA for golf’s biggest prize.
Cognite worked with Thomas Bjorn and his vice-captains before and during the Ryder Cup to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of the range of personalities that made up Team Europe.

COMMUNICATION
High performing teams are invariably made up of strong and contrasting characters.
A key element of leadership is being able to effectively communicate with each individual player in order to maximise performance.
COACHING
The SnapShot Profiling provided practical coaching strategies around motivation, selection, communication and leadership for each individual.
The TeamSheet illustrated the overall dynamic of the group and highlighted areas of similarities and difference which were used to inform selection decisions.
PERFORMANCE
Despite losing the first session 3-1, Europe responded by ‘whitewashing’ the USA in the afternoon foursomes.
That momentum carried on into Saturday and Europe went into Sunday’s singles leading 10-6.
On Sunday, they completed the job, eventually winning 17½ to 10½.
“Tom Young was a key part of the support staff at the Ryder cup in 2018. The approach to team dynamics is unique and immediately applicable to leadership in elite sport.”
