KEELY HODGKINSON
GOLD MEDAL MINDSET
Since early 2023, Tom Young has worked as the performance psychologist for Keely Hodgkinson, providing tailored mental skills support as she navigated the demands of competing at the highest level.
With a focus on fostering a Gold Medal mindset, Tom has been part of Keely’s journey as she aimed to reach her full potential on the global stage.
OLYMPIC CHAMPION
Keely’s standout moment came at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where she achieved her dream of winning gold in the 800m.
This historic victory was the culmination of years of hard work and dedication, with her mental preparation playing a vital role in managing the pressure and performing at her peak when it mattered most.
Alongside her physical excellence, her composure and clarity under pressure were a testament to her mental approach.
AN UNFORGETTABLE YEAR
In addition to her Olympic triumph, Keely’s incredible year was capped off by being named BBC Sports Personality of the Year, an honour that recognised not just her achievements on the track but also her humility and determination.
Keely’s ability to handle the challenges of competing at the highest level while staying focused and grounded has been a hallmark of her approach.
The mental strategies she developed during this time have helped her manage the pressures of success and maintain her drive for continued improvement, rounding off an unforgettable period in her career.
“I’ve always hoped to win and, I guess, had that pressure. But this year I worked more psychologically on getting that gold medal mindset of ‘I really believe that’s where I belong. I work hard all the time, but it’s months and months of talking about it and thinking about it and thinking about what decisions you’d make if you were an Olympic gold medallist. A medallist might be more focused on what others are doing because you don’t want to miss out. A gold medallist is going to be so confident; they’re not looking at what other people are doing, they’re focused on themselves.”
