TOMMY FLEETWOOD
EUROPEAN AND PGA TOUR GOLFER
Tom Young worked as the performance psychologist for Tommy Fleetwood, a professional golfer on both the European and PGA Tours, from 2017 until 2022.
In 2016, Fleetwood’s world ranking had fallen to 188th, prompting a period of reflection and reinvention. He rebuilt his support team, drawing on trusted coaches he had worked with previously, and began a journey to claim his place among the best in the game. A key aspect of this resurgence was a renewed emphasis on his mental approach, both on and off the course, with Tom playing a vital role during this period.

RACE TO DUBAI
Fleetwood’s turnaround was swift. In early 2017, he won the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship and later triumphed at the French Open, held at the venue of Europe’s 2018 Ryder Cup victory.
Strong performances at the World Golf Championship in Mexico and the US Open propelled Fleetwood to the top of the European Tour rankings, earning him the ‘Race to Dubai’ title and the honour of being crowned Europe’s number one golfer.
MOMENTUM
Following his success in 2017, Fleetwood demonstrated the challenge of “winning after winning” with another stellar year in 2018. He opened the season with a repeat victory in Abu Dhabi and delivered a record-tying round of 63 at the US Open, where he finished second.
By the end of the year, Fleetwood had climbed into the world’s top ten and earned his place as a rookie on Europe’s Ryder Cup team.
RYDER CUP WINNER
At the Ryder Cup in Paris, Fleetwood, alongside Francesco Molinari, formed the iconic ‘Moliwood’ partnership. Together, they became the first European pair to win all four matches in the opening two days.
Individually, Fleetwood set a record as the first rookie to achieve this feat, etching his name in Ryder Cup history while playing a critical role in Europe’s victory.
